Giving gifts of handcrafted spoons has its roots in the 17th century with the oldest surviving example of a love spoon dating back to 1667. Celtic handmade love spoons were often quite plain but over the years, they have become more elaborate, decorative and intricate. The leaves and heart shaped spoon on this scrolled and burnt piece represents growing love.
