Description:
Since not many New Jersey Elm trees have been the victim of storm damage or the utility companies, BAC has not made many things using this hardwood. At one time, the glue like substance of the Elm trees inner barked was soaked in water as a remedy for throat ailments, made into powder for use in pumices, and chewed as a thirst quencher.
After skillful carving, a beautiful basket emerged from the elm tree. The wood flows from greyish white, light brown, reddish brown to dark brown color. The various shades of brown form a wavy pattern on the long sides of the basket. The rings of the elm tree can be seen on one end of this decorative art piece. A few small tree knots are featured on the inside of the basket. The inside texture is bumpy and the outside bottom is flat.
